Ludwigsburg is a medium-sized town (93,000 inhabitants) in the north of Stuttgart, famous for its baroque palaces. The municipality’s activities are based on the integrated city development concept with strategic objectives in 11 areas.
On the basis of the integrated Urban Development Strategy, Ludwigsburg developed a municipal energy and climate protection concept in 2010 and a strategic concept for climate adaptation in 2016.
In the coming years Ludwigsburg will implement the climate adaptation concept, with the implementation of several nature based solutions. The City of Ludwigsburg, as a follower City in URBAN GreenUP, is therefore really interested in the experience achieved by the Front Runner Cities during the demonstration activities. Ludwigsburg will also share its experiences in this field.
In fact Ludwigsburg has already implemented several nature based solutions. These include: the renaturation of a part of the river bank of the river Neckar and the “Green Living Room”, 140 m² of vertical green space on top of the town hall’s underground car park. The green walls actively contribute to improve the recreational quality of the place and its micro climate and help sustain the local diversity of flora and fauna.
