CENTA, a non-profit research institution, currently plays a major role in the water sector, performing diverse functions and tasks aimed at promoting a better management of water resources with an innovative, sustainable and supportive approach. CENTA puts its focus on innovation on water as the main driving force for change towards a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy in Andalusia.
CENTA has more than 25 years of research experience in wastewater treatment and water reuse for small communities, rural areas and decentralised treatment, with a particular focus on natural systems with low energy consumption and small technical requirements, such as wetlands or ponds.
CENTA acts as a platform for technology and knowledge validation and transference, and it is considered an active living lab in the water sector. Besides, CENTA provides technical assistance to water authorities in Spain and participates in European and international cooperation projects in Latin America, North Africa, Middle East and India.
CENTA’s main role in URBAN GreenUP project is the design of NBS for storm water and wastewater treatment (SUDS, constructed wetlands, green filters) promoting not only the adequate management of those streams but also the reuse of water and, therefore, enhancing the city resilience against climate change.
