Engineered solutions to improve the functionality of soils in urban areas. Improvements includes the use of biochar to increase the absorption of water pollutants from urban run –off and the slow release of plant nutrients. This smart soil works also assess the opportunities for biodiversity enhancement by incorporation of mycorrhizae and other soil fauna that will improve the soil process functioning through the creation of healthy smart soils.
This NBS creates some modifications in the environment so there are some disadvantages of removing it in the future.
The period of recovery of the initial economic investment of the NBS is between 10 and 20 years.
